The New York Public Library's flagship location: the Stephen A.  Schwarzman Building.

Join us for a one-hour guided tour highlighting the history, architecture and collections of the magnificent Beaux-Arts building -- including the historic Rose Main Reading Room.  The Library’s docent-led tours are an excellent way to see highlights of this wonderful building, and the only way to get group access to many of the Library’s must-see spaces.  After the docent tour we will allow another 30 minutes to self-tour the ground floor exhibition.

Please arrive by 11:15am.  We'll gather in the Visitor Center to meet our docent.

An optional lunch is being arranged nearby.   The reservation time and restaurant are still TBD.   Please RSVP to Joan Freed or Gwynne McConkey if you would like to join for lunch.  Please bring cash in order to split the lunch bill.   

Accessibility:   The Library itself is fully accessible.  It has ramps and elevators.  HOWEVER - the nearest parking is 2 blocks away. 

Parking:  We suggest carpooling and parking at one of the nearby garages listed below and reserving a space with Spot Hero or Park Whiz apps:

  Icon Parking  143-145 West 40th Street between 7th Ave & Broadway

Public Transportation is also an option.  The library is walking distance from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (on 8th Ave) and Penn Station.   There is also a 42nd Street Bus route from the NY Waterways Ferry Terminal at 38th Street & 12 Avenue.
