CHI (V) - City Book Club - Frankenstein

About this event

City Book Club

We will be dissecting and reassembling an enduring classic of horror fiction,
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s Frankenstein or, The Modern Prometheus (1818 Edition). We chose the original 1818 version, rather than later versions that were supposedly less shocking.

From Amazon:
”Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein endures as one of literature’s most haunting and profound explorations of creation, ambition, and the human soul. Written when Shelley was only eighteen, this remarkable novel follows Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist consumed by the pursuit of forbidden knowledge. Driven by his obsession, he brings forth a living being from lifeless matter—only to recoil in horror at the creature he has made. What follows is a chilling and deeply moving tale of isolation, vengeance, and moral reckoning.
As the creature grapples with rejection and despair, Shelley masterfully confronts the timeless questions of what it means to be human and where the boundaries of responsibility lie.
Frankenstein is not only a gothic tale of terror but also a philosophical meditation on the power and peril of human creativity.”
