DC Hike at Rock Creek Regional Park Lake Frank + Lunch // Bring a Friend! 010126

About this event

Join us for the annual Women’s Connection New Year’s Day Hike at Rock Creek Regional Park Lake Frank on Thursday, January 1.

The seven-mile natural surface trail system features a shoreline trail at Lake Bernard Frank, trails to Sunfish Pond and Pioneer Study Pond as well as several miles of nature trails. We will cross a covered bridge, see an old homestead, possibly an eagle’s nest and more. The hike will take about 1 ½ hours to 2 hours.

Specific directions to the parking area will be sent to registrants via email. NOTE: We are meeting at the Avery Road Trail Access Parking Lot, NOT the main entrance of the park located south of Muncaster Mill Road at Meadowside Lane.

After the hike, we will head to lunch at China Jade in Derwood. They have a Cantonese and Szechuan menu. The address is 16805 Crabbs Branch Way, Derwood, MD 20855. The menu is available at  www.chinajaderockvillebest.com. It is a 10 - 15 minute drive from the parking lot of the hike.

The nonmember fee has been waived for this event so please bring a friend!

Nourishing Bethesda Needs Our Help!

We just learned that in addition to providing food, Nourishing Bethesda also provides its clients with feminine hygiene products. Its long-time partner, who provided the supplies, had to step away, so for the moment, some women in our community are left without feminine hygiene products. Not being able to meet such a basic need is unacceptable, and we invite you to join us in filling this gap.

If you are not familiar with Nourishing Bethesda, it serves more than 7,000 individuals in our community each month, including many children, families, seniors, and neighbors transitioning from homelessness, offering much-needed nutritious food. While some might think there is no need in this area, significant demographic changes over the past decade, sharply rising inflation, the high cost of housing, and other factors have left the region with pockets of poverty.

We ask you to consider donating packages of pads (light to heavy), liners, and tampons. Pads are the most requested. You can lend your support in whichever way is best for you:

Drop Off Supplies

At our January 1 hike or January 6 Yuan Fu Dinner, we will collect donations, or join us at Nourishing Bethesda on January 15. You can also drop off donated items at 5915 Anniston Road, Bethesda

If you prefer, Nourishing Bethesda is always in need of food. The most needed food items include canned tuna, salmon, and chicken; rice and pasta; canned soup; cooking oil; peanut butter; canned or dried beans and lentils; canned tomatoes and tomato paste; canned corn and mixed veggies; and plain and low-sugar cereals. To avoid mishaps, please don’t donate items in glass containers.

Thank you for joining us as we look out for one another in challenging times for many.
